This 13-year-old Ghanaian has been admitted to Ghana's top science university

Ruth Ama Gyan-Darkwa has been admitted to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology at age 13 and it's made history.

One year in Creche, two years in kindergarten, three years in lower primary, three years in upper primary and another three years in Junior High School for basic education.

Senior High School adds another three years before tertiary education. That’s a total of fifteen years in school before tertiary education (for a person who starts school at age zero).

Ruth Ama Gyan-Darkwa has defied the odds in Ghana after getting admission to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) at the age of 13, the first in the school’s 65 years of existence.

The 13-year-old is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Kwadwo Gyan-Darkwa and lived on the Prempeh College’s campus, one of Ghana’s best Senior High Schools, where her father is a senior tutor.

For her basic education, Ruth Ama GYan-Darkwa attended Christ Our Hope International School in Kumasi before moving to Abraham Lincoln Junior High School.

Now KNUST’s youngest freshman since the school was founded in 1952, Ruth wrote her final Junior High School exam at the first year of junior high school instead of the usual third and was successful.

She then enrolled at St. Louis Senior High School at the age of 10, where she offered General Science.

Ruth Ama Gyan-Darkwa at the age of 13 has been admitted to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to offer BSc. Mathematics.

Expected to graduate with the class of 2021, Ruth could have her bachelor’s degree at the age of 17, following her father who is a mathematics teacher at Prempeh College’s line of study.
