We chose Ilara’s plain strawberry flavoured product to face off against Delamere’s vanilla pods flavoured offering. Both products are from Kenyan giant Brookside Dairy, the most dominant player in the dairy business.
The looks department is an easy win for Delamere with its bold colour mix on the cup making it a much more attractive proposition to Ilara’s plain looking cup. Well that is what most of the office said.
Taste was however more competitive and that is what matters right? Delamere’s yoghurt with the vanilla pods slayed with its thickness while Ilara even though it had been advertised as “Rich and Creamy” was anything but, with a very light and watery consistency but boy did it taste good!
Illara somehow pulls off the perfect mix of strawberry and yoghurt even though it needs to work on colouring. Damn thing was too pink!
Delamere’s vanilla pod offering disappointed in taste. The vanilla pods addition should have helped the flavouring but it somehow does not succeed in finding the perfect mix and is also too sweet. It left me with a feeling of disappointment after been carried away by every thing else it had to offer.
I almost forgot. Delamere costs KES 140 while Ilara costs KES120.
