Watamu, Diani and Nairobi National park are some of the most popular tourist attractions in the country.

Mount Kenya Summit - Pointe Batian

But Kenya offers more travel sites than these attractions that make it to the top of Trip Advisor. Sites that you should put on your bucket list and visit at least once in your lifetime. Check them out below:

1. Lake Turkana Basin

When you think of Turkana, you often imagine some rather horrible things like a turbid muddy lake and starving children, but as they say, don’t believe everything you see in the media because there is more to Turkana County than what is shown in the media.

One of the star attractions of Turkana County is the world’s largest desert lake, Lake Turkana formerly known as Lake Rudolf.

The world's largest alkaline lake not only boasts of a pH greater than 7 but also a beautiful beach that rivals the world’s most beautiful beaches.

2. Tafaria Castle & Country Lodge

The middle ages lasted from 5th to the 15th century and was characterised by wars, smallpox, dysentery, measles, high infant mortality and the infamous plague.

But amidst all the unhinged diseases the world saw major technological advances during the period including spectacles, vertical windmills and gunpowder. In this age, architecture also progressed with Gothic architecture and medieval castles coming into place.

But the fortified Disney-like architecture didn’t really make it back here but Kenyans can now have a peek at the medieval past of Europe thanks to Tafaria Castle.

3. Lake Michaelson Mt Kenya

Most new hikers are more interested in the peaks Mt Kenya presents like Point Lenana, Nelion and Batian. But under Point Lenana lies a beautiful lake called Lake Michaelson .The Lake where Kenyan blogger This Is Ess was flown to before her then boyfriend Lonina Leteipan proposed in a viral engagement story.

Aside from Lake Michelson there are 24 other lakes that dot the mountain and you can pay a visit to Lake Alice, Lake Ratundu, Lake Ellis and others and enjoy the little joys of nature.

At Ratundu you can enjoy some fly-fishing as it offers rainbow trout, picnics or camping and Lake Alice offers a view like no other with the mountain peaks forming an award-worthy backdrop to this already glorious scenery.

4. Mudanda Rock

In one of the largest and oldest parks in Kenya Tsavo East National Park, rises an abrupt isolated hill called Mudanda, the less famous sister of Yatta plateau, the world's longest lava flow.

Mudanda hill has been used as a campsite as it looks like something straight out off National geographic.

5. Suguta Valley

Located in what has been called 'The Valley of Death' due to banditry, cattle rustling, blistering heat, an unforgiving terrain and where 42 police officers lost their lives  is one of the most beautiful places on earth.

If you can manage to overlook the bad terrain that includes sharp volcanic rocks and bones and temperatures soaring up to 50°C you will get a glimpse of the Suguta Sand dunes and rock craters which is one of the most spectacular desert landscapes.

6. Lake Logipi

At the northern end of the arid Suguta Valley close to Lake Turkana is Lake Logipi that is separated from the huge lake by a shield volcano called Barrier Volcano .

Lake Logipi has been described as the new flamingo harbour by various travel sites with the pink birds allegedly flying from Lake Nakuru and Bogoria to Turkana’s little known sister.

Aside from the star attraction which is usually flamingos are a few Saline hot springs and the Cathedral Rock a.k.a Naperito which rises from the lake to form a scene that takes your breath away.
