All you need to know about Kenya's Deputy Chief Justice, Philomena Mwilu, who has been arrested for corruption
Her arrest followed a series of meetings by the Judicial Service Commission, the judiciary employer, for the better part of the morning.
On Tuesday, Kenyas Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu was arrested for alleged corruption.
Judge Mwilu was later taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for questioning.
According to Daily Nation, investigations on the judge have mainly revolved around transactions involving the collapsed Imperial Bank, and failure to pay taxes.
Moments after the arrest, Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji called an urgent press conference on the matter.
“The evidence in our possession shows that DCJ Mwilu abused her office, obtained execution over security belonging to Imperial Bank which is now under receivership under false pretences, and engaged in unlawful failure to pay taxes."
“This decision has not been taken lightly but it is the right decision under the law. Most of us at DPP's office are officers of the court and the independence of the Judiciary is dear to us,” Haji told journalists at a press conference in Nairobi on Tuesday
