Uhuru conveys goodwill message to China ahead of Friday's New Year celebrations
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari also sent his New Year message to the people of China
"The people of Kenya join me in sending their best wishes to the people of China, and to all those who will celebrate the Chinese New Year this Friday," Uhuru said in a statement addressed to Chinese president Xi Jinping.
The head-of-state praised the relationship between the two countries, saying they had achieved much success together on ambitious projects that are transforming the lives of Kenyans.
“One of them is the Standard Gauge Railway, the single largest infrastructure project in East and Central Africa – power of co-operation and friendship between our two nations and peoples”, said Mr. Kenyatta.
"I believe this next year will mark a new milestone in the relations between Kenya and China, which have grown from strength to strength over half a millennium," the statement continued.
Likewise, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari also delivered Happy New Year greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping and the Chinese people.
"As you commence festivities marking the Chinese Year of the Dog on 16 February we congratulate and wish the Chinese people a prosperous and peaceful New Year,” said Mr. Buhari.
He acknowledged the accomplishments of the Asian powerhouse in the past year globally and domestically especially on the economic and the political fronts.
The Chinese New Year or Spring Festival is the most important festival in China. Every year, hundreds of millions of Chinese people travel home during the time for reunions with their families.
