The commander in Chief is boldly sending a message to Africa and the world that women too can not only serve in the military but can also hold prestigious and senior positions once the preserve of men.

In a yet another heartwarming gesture, Mr. Kenyatta appeared in public with first-ever assistant female aide-de-camp, Racheal Nduta.

On Friday, while attending the Kenya Music Festival Winners' State Concert held in Nyeri, the president stepped out his official car not accompanied by a stiff no-nonsense male aide-de-camp (ADC) as usual but a smartly dressed Lieutenant Colonel Rachel Nduta Kamui who immediately warmed Kenyans hearts.

According to State House, Lieutenant Colonel Rachel Nduta Kamui is attached to the Kenya Air Force and will be working alongside Lieutenant Colonel Timothy Lekolool, in carrying out ADC duties.

On July 13th, President Kenyatta similarly booked his place in Kenya and Africa’s history when he promoted Fatuma Ahmed to become Kenya's first Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Major General.

Ahmed who was enlisted to KDF in 1983 had in Tuesday, August 11, 2015 been promoted to be the country's first woman Army Brigadier in first changes under Chief of Defence Forces Samson Mwathethe. She is currently the highest ranking female military officer in Kenya.

For the first time in Kenyan history, President Kenyatta also appointed a woman as his defense cabinet secretary, a position women for decades had only dreamt about and seen in movies.

Hon. Raychelle Omamo was first appointed Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Defence in 2013 and later retained in 2018, effectively proving just how confident the head of state is in her abilities.

You would think President Kenyatta would stop there, but no when it comes to women the commander in chief not only understands but practices  ‘no retreat no surrender’ dogma.

On June, he appointed renowned Citizen TV anchor Kanze Dena as the new Deputy State House Spokesperson and Deputy Head of the Presidential Strategic Communication Unit (PSCU), making her the first woman to hold such a position in Kenya.

In similar fashion, the President also appointed Ms. Munira Mohamed as Deputy Head, PSCU and Head of the Presidential Library.

Currently, more than seven women are serving in President Kenyatta's administration holding key decision making positions either as cabinet secretaries, principal secretaries, ambassadors etc.

And the good thing is that President Kenyatta's moves are not going unnoticed, like the handsome chap he is Kenyan women are not only love struck but greatly admire him as well.

According to a recent survey by consumer insights Africa, President Kenyatta is the most admired public figure among a majority of Kenyan women.

Mr. Kenyatta is serving his last term in office and will be leaving office come 2022 but knowingly or unknowingly he may not only have planted the seed but went out of his way to water it and ensure Kenya elects her first woman president in the near foreseeable future.

One thing is for sure though, Kenyan and African women will not forget about him long after he leaves office.
