Kenyans are reading too much in these photos of Gideon Moi receiving foreign heads-of-state

The Baringo senator has been perceived as a heir to Uhuru in 2022.

Photos of Gideon Moi receiving foreign heads-of-state has elicited mixed reactions among Kenyans.

The Baringo Senator was at hand alongside Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed to receive a number of foreign presidents including Uganda's Yoweri Museveni, South Sudan's Salva Kiir Mayardit as well as former Tanzanian president Jakaya Kikwete who are part of the international dignitaries expected to grace President Kenyatta's inauguration ceremony.

Kenyans have however read too much in the photos with some alluding to the fact that the son to Daniel Arap Moi is being 'groomed' for the 2022 presidency.

Gideon has been perceived to be the heir to Uhuru Kenyatta once he exits the political stage in 2022.

However much Deputy president William Ruto is in the frame for the 2022 presidency, analysts say that Uhuru might sideline him in favour of Gideon Moi. This seeing that Uhuru may want to return the favour to former president Daniel Arap Moi who chose him as his successor in the 2002 General Election, which Mr Kenyatta lost resoundingly to Mr Mwai Kibaki.

By anointing Uhuru, President Moi was most probably returning a favour Uhuru’s father and Kenya’s founding president, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, had done in appointing him as Vice President 1967.
