In his first term, the President worked exclusively from State House, only occasionally going to his other office, Harambee House.

Industry players say very few buildings in the proposed area have such huge space, which is the equivalent of about a fifth of a football field.

President Uhuru's latest need might not go down too well with the general public who after an extravagant 2017 for the presidency.

The office spent Sh1.73 billion ($16m) on hospitality in the 2016/17 fiscal year compared to 1.41 billion ($13m) during in 2015/16 fiscal year.

The President's new office space would cost taxpayers to dole out an average of Sh14 million ($140,000) annually, if the rent is charged at an average of Sh150 per square feet not counting other fees, including service charge, furniture and fittings which would push the costs even higher.
