How the international media is covering Kenya's repeat election

The foreign media has been often accused of taking advantage of the elections in Africa to perpetuate stereotypes of the continent as violent.

Kenya's repeat election has been a talking point for the international press with much emphasis on low voter turnout, boycott by Opposition leader Raila Odinga and the protests witnessed in various parts of the country.

Kenyans took to the polls in Thursday's election re-run which has polarised the country and may be fiercely disputed in the absence of Mr. Odinga.

Protests have been witnessed in opposition strongholds with the death toll from the two-days of chaos reaching eight.

National Super Alliance party leader Raila Odinga has since boycotted the re-run terming it as a "sham Presidential election."
