Kenyan opposition to name 'Cabinet' following Raila's swearing-in

NASA CEO Norman Magaya said the party will in less than 30 days time hold a national convention where the groundwork will be laid on how their government will be run.

He also stated that opposition leaders are engaging in wide consultations on formation of the ‘Cabinet’ which the political outfit says will be unveiled within the next seven days.

“In due time, we will also inform the public where the offices of our president will be as well as how Kenyans will be able to receive services,” Magaya said in a radio interview.

Mr Odinga took oath of office as the 'People's President' on Tuesday at an event attended by thousands of opposition supporters. Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i on Wednesday however stated that the government has commenced a probe into the swearing-in which he termed as a "well choreographed attempt to overthrow the government of Kenya."

The CS  further indicated that the investigation would extend to all people purported to be behind the controversial event and upon completion of the probe, appropriate legal action would be taken in accordance with the law.

Even as NASA seeks to run a parallel government, Mr Odinga does not have the legal mandate to execute functions of the President as outlined in article 132 of the constitution.

These include nominating and appointing Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries and Diplomats, addressing Parliament, the power of mercy and authority to confer national honours.
