Omarosa Manigault Newman, the firebrand communications director of the White House's public liaison office who was fired in December, said President Donald Trump's prolific use of Twitter sometimes forced aides to scrap their meticulously-crafted plans, according to a Wall Street Journal report published on Monday.

"He would on occasion tweet something so egregious we would completely have to scratch that messaging we'd done all night before and we would have go with his stuff," Omarosa said to The Journal.

Omarosa said other aides would caution Trump to "tweet responsibly."

Trump would "look at you like, 'I can't believe you of all people don't understand why I tweet,'" Omarosa added.

But what Trump sees as a platform to speak directly with the public, some White House officials viewed as a liability. Trump has previously wrestled with aides over his phone use, which extend beyond his frequent musings on Twitter, according to news reports.

In the past, aides were reportedly unaware that Trump gave out his personal cell phone number to foreign leaders and made official calls without informing them.

"We had no idea what happened," a senior US official recounting an incident in which Trump made an abrupt phone call to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, said to The Washington Post.

Omarosa, who released her tell-all book " target="_blank"Unhinged: An Insider's Account of the White House," last week, made startling accusations against her former boss in several interviews. During a media blitz prior to her book's release, Omarosa claimed she heard Trump say the N-word "multiple times" in reference to a black contestant on NBC's "The Apprentice."

Omarosa's allegations signal a dramatic departure from what was previously believed to be an unflinching loyalty to Trump. She said that she released her book, along with several unflattering recordings with White House officials, to expose Trump for the "misogynist, the bigot, and the racist that he is."

The White House flatly denied Omarosa's claims. Trump's presidential campaign filed arbitration proceedings in light of her book, claiming she breached a nondisclosure agreement for her role in the White House and on the campaign.

However, Omarosa stood her ground, saying she "will not be silenced" by Trump.

"I will not be intimidated," Omarosa told The Associated Press. "I'm not going to be bullied by Donald Trump."
