Nairobi Governor blasted over plans to 'import' Indian surgeons for kidney transplants

The governor had on Sunday said that the Indian medics would be hosted at Mbagathi Hospital as they carry out the first transplant.

"A visit by county officials to Mbagathi Hospital where the first kidney transplant will take place this week. Lead surgeons from India will train local doctors so that they can carry on with the operations," read Sonko's tweet.

His statement however irked Kenyans on Twitter, popularly known as KOT, who argued that he was pulling a PR stunt since Kenyan urologists have been performing kidney transplants for years.

One user questioned whether the transplant would be done on the right patient after an incident where doctors at Kenyatta National Hospital conducted a brain surgery on the wrong patient.

A number of Kenyans however lauded the Governor's move while at the same time asking him to work on renovating the hsopital.
