For many Kenyans, it is the season to make merry during the festive period and Opposition leader Raila Odinga knows this all too well.
Kenyan opposition leader toasts to a Merry Christmas; vows to reach Canaan by all means
"The Israelites will reach Canaan, wapende wasipende"
The National Super Alliance (NASA) principal was spotted toasting to a Merry Christmas while addressing members believed to be from the opposition outfit.
Mr. Odinga was clad in a Santa hat and appeared to be rather squiffy in what appeared to be a meeting to strategize the way forward for the Opposition party in as far as his 'swearing in' as president is concerned.
In the video, Mr. Odinga is heard promising ‘Israelites’ (NASA supporters), that they will reach Canaan.
“You must confess that the Israelites will reach Canaan, wapende wasipende (whether they like it or not),” he said.
Raila Odinga getting into the Santa mood
Raila has been riding on the Canaan narrative since the election campaigns began earlier this year. He likened the Presidency to the Biblical Canaan where the children of Israel settled. The NASA leader vowed to be the one to deliver Kenyans to the Promised Land if elected president.
And despite losing out in the Oct 26 repeat poll to President Uhuru Kenyatta, he vowed to take oath as people’s president “very early in the New Year”. This despite the government warning that he risks death for treason if he does swear himself in.
