Raila hits back at foreign envoys for meddling in Kenya politics

The envoys urged Raila to accept the legitimacy of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The National Super Alliance leader told off the western envoys led by US ambassador Robert Godec after calls that he should accept the legitimacy of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He accused them of being hypocritical adding that they are being keen in their business interests and not the issues affecting Kenyans.

“We are telling these diplomats that they must stop being hypocritical. They have no regard for democracy in our country; they are only interested in pursuing business avenues that will exploit our people but benefit their respective countries and economies.”

Mr. Odinga further asked them to stop meddling in country’s affairs and respect Kenya’s sovereignty.

“No Kenyan has ever told America who their President is, neither have we ever told the UK or Germany who its Prime Minister is. Why should they tell Kenyans who their President is? Kenyans know who their President is,” he said.

The envoys had earlier issued a joint statement asking the former prime minster to recognise the election of President Uhuru Kenyatta as a legitimate expression of the people’s will before a dialogue takes place.

“We are concerned not because not because we presume to dictate how Kenyans should regulate their country’s affairs- we don’t,” read their statement in part.

Mr. Odinga however termed the envoys' attempts to broker a political dialogue as a deliberate attempt to introduce neo-colonialism in Kenya.

He maintained that he does not recognize Kenyatta as the President of Kenya saying the Nasa outfit will continue to push for electoral reforms.

Mr. Odinga was last month sworn-in as the 'People's President' , a move that saw the government launch a series of arrests on key opposition figures believed to be masterminds behind the January 30 ceremony.
