  • Sub-Saharan Africa remains one of the weak-performing regions on the 2020 ease of doing business with an average score of 51.8.
  • Mauritius retains its position as the best economy for doing business in Africa
  • Nigeria and Toyo make improvements within the last year and among top global improvers but still not enough to meet up with Mauritius, Rwanda, and Morocco on the continent.

Mauritius has emerged as the easiest place to do business in Africa, ranking 13th globally, according to the World Bank Group’s Doing Business 2020 report.

With four reforms implemented this year, the Southern African country made resolving insolvency easier and improved contract enforcement.

In Africa, Rwanda, Morocco, Kenya, and Tunisia followed Mauritius as the best country for doing business for private sectors and investors.

With reforms led by the Organization for the Harmonization of Business Law in Africa last year and the Central African Economic and Monetary Community this year, economies in Sub-Saharan Africa have demonstrated how regional cooperation can help to effectively improve the business climate,” said Santiago Croci Downes, Program Manager of the Doing Business Unit.

Nigeria earned a place among the year’s top global improvers alongside Togo, according to the World Bank Group’s Doing Business study.

Compared to other parts of the world, Sub-Saharan Africa still underperforms in several areas and the region remains one of the weak-performing regions, with an average score of 51.8.
