The brother of US President Donald Trump filed a temporary restraining order to prevent the publication of a book that threatens to spill the "dark history of their family," The New York Times reported on Tuesday.

"Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World's Most Dangerous Man," is a tell-all work by Mary Trump, the daughter of the late Fred Trump Jr. and the president's niece. It is set to go on sale on July 28.

But Mary Trump's uncle, Robert the president's younger brother, is trying to stop that from happening, The Times reported .

Simon & Schuster, the book's publisher, did not respond to a request for comment. However, a spokesperson told The Times that the company was confident the effort would fail.

"As the plaintiff and his attorney well know, the courts take a dim view of prior restraint," the spokesperson said," and this attempt to block publication will meet the same fate as those that have gone before."

Simon & Schuster is also the publisher of another new tell-all book from John Bolton , the president's former national security advisor.

The Trump clan insists that their niece's book violates a non-disclosure agreement that came about after Mary Trump and her brother settled a lawsuit related to their inheritance or relative lack thereof.

"President Trump and his siblings are seeking to suppress a book that will discuss matters of utmost public importance," her lawyer said in a statement, as reported by NBC News . "They are pursuing this unlawful prior restraint because they do not want the public to know the truth. The courts will not tolerate this brazen violation of the First Amendment."
