5 facts you need to know about the Kenyan referee picked to officiate in the World Cup

Congratulations Aden Marwa!

Marwa will be used as an assistant ref in what will be another high profile outing for the official after the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN), where he served among the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

He joins a host of four other referees picked from Africa to officiate in the sporting event slated for June 14-July 15.

Here a few facts you need to know about him:

  • Marwa is the first Kenyan football official to be involved in any FIFA competition, having featured in the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
