No African University made the list for the world's most innovative universities

The East couldn't beat the West

The African continent can pride itself with enormous natural resources but talk about the most influential research leading to the most transformational technologies and their universities are leaving no lasting impressions.

This development was revealed as Reuters' concluded its annual ranking of the World’s Most Innovative Universities.

The list identified and ranked the educational institutions who are a force to reckon with in advancing science, inventing new technologies and powering new markets and industries.

Obviously, universities in the West topped the ranking and yes! The East was not even close. Just one university in Asia(KAIST in South Korea) made it to the top 10.

For the third consecutive year, Stanford University is the most innovative university in the world.

Stanford University continues to consistently produce original research and technology. Innovations that originate at Stanford are frequently cited by researchers elsewhere in academia and in private industry.

Overall, the top ranks of The World's Most Innovative Universities remain largely unchanged, with nine of last year’s 10 highest-ranked universities remaining in the top 10.

In compiling the 2017 list more than 600 global organizations – including educational institutions, nonprofit charities and government-funded labs – that publish the most academic research were considered.

Each institution was evaluated on 10 different metrics, focusing on academic papers (which indicate basic research) and patent filings (which point to an institution’s ability to apply research and commercialize its discoveries), and ranked them based on their performance.
