Raila's promise to Kenyan mothers

Raila's has set out on a charm offensive to woo Kenya's 9.4 million female voters.

NASA Presidential candidate Raila Odinga has promised to set up a special fund for single mothers once he is elected as Kenya's next president during the August 8 polls.

Raila has set out on a charm offensive targeting single mothers who have largely been ignored and have never really featured in past campaign pledges.

The NASA leader has spread the message of the special fund in his latest rallies across Kiambu, Embu and Meru counties.

Raila says the special fund will enable single mothers to raise capital to establish small businesses that will help them sustain themselves and their children.

“Single mothers are having serious problems bringing up families. We are saying that we are going to pay special attention to this group so that they can be able to access capital, they can be able to do business or get employment to be able to look after their children properly,” Raila said on Monday during the Presidential debate.

According to IEBC statistics, there are about 9.4 million female voters, with half of them being between the age of 18 and 34 years.

Raila has also promised that NASA will rally Kenyans to address gaps in the Constitution that have frustrated those among them seeking elective positions.

The NASA leader is on record blaming President Uhuru Kenyatta for failing to uphold the two-thirds gender rule.

He has also pledged to revive debate on provisions that safeguard the interests of women in the original draft constitution.
