Speaking during a meeting where he met teachers who had endorsed NASA candidate Raila Odinga, Joho divulged that it takes courage to stand with the people.
“It got to a point where I had to make a decision for the people of Mombasa. I want to tell you here that it is not easy to stand before a President and tell him the bitter truth.
“I decided to face any consequences just to ensure I stand with the people and that is why you saw what I went through under the Jubilee government,” Mr Joho was quoted.
The Governor who is popularly known as 001, alleged that he was the only leader who had survived without state security since last year.
He claimed that the people have stood by him since the security officers were withdrawn.
The Head of State and Joho have been at logger heads with latter accusing Jubilee of failing to deliver anything to Coast residents.
The Governor accused the President of failing to initiate projects but taking credit for the ones that had been funded by World Bank.
The rivalry between the two, saw Kenyatta warn Joho that he would deal with him if he continued to interfere with his projects.
