FOX producers apologise after Westgate Massacre footage backlash. Read what they had to say below

Yesterday, Kenyans were beside themselves with anger after ‘24: Legacy’ used some real life-footage of the Westgate Massacre in one of their recent episodes.

Instead of recreating a terrorist attack that left 200 people dead including Americans at Al-Jagred Market in Alexandria Egypt, they included footage from the bloody Westgate massacre that left 67 people dead including celebrity radio presenter Ruhila Adatia-Sood.

An act that left a bad taste in the mouths of Kenyans who made their feelings known through the hashtags :#SomeoneTellFox and #Someonetell24legacy.

Bowing to the pressure Executive producers Evan Katz and Manny Coto apologised or the insensitivity and promised to remove the offensive material form future broadcast and versions of the show.

“In episode 4 of 24: Legacy we regretfully included news footage of an attack in Nairobi. It will be removed from all future broadcasts and versions of the show. We apologize for any pain caused to the victims and their families and are deeply sorry.” The producers said in a statement seen by Atlantic Media’ s Quartz.
