The Kenyan rapper, whose real name is Mark Mbogo, shares the same manager as Kanye West.
Kaycyy was in the company of Kanye West who was attending his Donda Academy’s debut basketball game.
Other celebrities in the group included P Diddy’s son King Combs and Kanye West’s alleged new girlfriend Vinetria.
For the past year and a half, the 24-year-old Kenyan rapper has been working closely with Kanye.
Kaycyy, who is working on his new album with Kanye, also jokingly teased that he might bring the US legend to Kenya.
The two met through their manager Abou “Bu” Thiam and Kanye fell in love with the young rapper’s music.
“They’ve been friends for a while, and I met ’Ye in L.A. at his house. I played “No Luck” for him when I got the chance, and he said he liked my melodies. I didn’t see him for another year, or maybe half a year. Then Bu ended up managing him, and the link-up happened again. This time, it was just for sure. I locked in and started working on the album, Donda, for like a year and a half.
“Every time Kanye would introduce me to people like Trav or Justin Bieber and all these people, he’d be, like, ‘Man, here’s my first artist out of YZY SND,’” KayCyy said during a recent interview with Complex.
KayCyy also disclosed that he still speaks Swahili and other Kenyan languages, which helps him broaden his music.
He was born and reared in Kenya for eleven years before relocating to Minnesota and then New York.
The rapper is planning to travel to Kenya in December 2021 but it is not yet clear if he will be performing.
