Afrobeat singer talks career inspiration, signing Davido with a Rolex

On his greatest achievement, the singer considers an opportunity to be a brand quite fulfilling.

The singer who dropped a new album, "King Don Come" on August 25, 2017, revealed that he finds motivation in everyone including artistes younger than he is.

He recounted a story about signing Davido with a Rolex in the year 2014, but that only proved to be a temporary arrangement after the latter's parents insisted that he must go to school.

The MTV Europe Music Award winner is however appreciative of the fact that the 'Coolest kid in Africa' songster went on to join the hierarchy of top musical talents in Nigeria and indeed Africa.

“I remember in 2014 when I went back to Nigeria, some young boy who used to work for me brought an artiste to me and said he wanted me to sign the artiste. I remember we gave the artiste a Rolex as a signing-on fee.

"I signed the artiste and then I got a call later on and they said the parents of the artiste wanted to meet with me, so I went and they said ‘please I want my boy to go to school’.

“And to look at today that the boy I’m talking about is one of the biggest artistes out of this generation, which is Davido”, he disclosed in the chat.

When the subject of what his greatest achievement so far has been, Koko Master D'banj didn't have to look too far.

For him it is simply about becoming a brand and influencing the lives of other people despite discouraging responses from loved ones in the past.

"The biggest achievement that I have today is that God has created a brand", he said.

"If you mention D'banj, it comes with a brand. And I don't have to release a song to be that source of visible hope that I have always wanted to be."

The singer was such a jokester when he quipped about the Queen of the United Kingdom, Elizabeth II knowing his name - what he considers a proof of his global popularity.

Ensuring that his personality continues to serve the intended goal which is to touch the lives of people appears to be what he desires most.

This was clearly expressed in his comment, "Whatever I do is to make sure that that brand that stands for visible hope which is D'banj, is alive".

The conversation with members of The Fedz wasn't quite the first meeting for the singer.

Their association already produced an impressive song titled 'Comment ca va'.

The energy seems right and everything seems to be falling in place for D'banj but it is yet to be known if he can repeat his "The Entertainer" feat talk less of doing better.
