This week has been exceptionally hot for members of the Tanzanian Showbiz industry as many of them have been summoned over drug trafficking charges.

Stars like Wema Sepetu, T.I.D, Idris Sultan, Vanessa Mdee, Nay Wa Mitego, former drug addict Ray C, Clouds FM’s media director Ruge Mutabaha, and video vixen Tunda were among those summoned.

The police claimed that they have received reports from reliable sources that the showbiz personalities named above were involved in the drug trade and the finding of a marijuana roll in Wema Sepetu’s household didn’t help her case.

There were also reports that two of Wema’s exes Idris Sultan and Diamond Platnumz were also implicated, a rumor Diamond Platnumz’ manager has termed as fallacious.

This is not the first time Tanzanian celebrities have been in trouble over drugs.

In 2013, Agnes Gerald known famously as Agnes Masogange spent time in prison after she was caught with 180 Kilograms of a Methamphetamine ingredient worth about 7 Billion shillings.

The substance in question was Ephedrine, a precursor chemical in the making of meth which forms the drug using a chemical reduction process. (Using anhydrous ammonia and lithium metal in the reaction, they remove ephedrine's hydroxyl group to form meth since the two chemicals have a structural similarity.)

After spending two months in prison, the judge at Kempton Park court fined her about 1.2 Million Kshs for her offence.

Now as Diamond faces allegations of drug use, Zari provided a shoulder to lean on for the Bongo actor as they prepare to celebrate Nillan’s 40.
