DJ Pinye left many people hot under their collars in 2018 after declaring that he cannot play mediocre music.

The feted DJ disclosed that back in the day he wouldn’t even play music from celebrities like Khaligraph and DNA but they have grown.

He added that ‘Lamba Lolo’ or ‘New Position’ by the Ethic Crew could never be on his playlist before urging DJs not to play mediocre music.

“There are artists whose music I did not play back in the days including @KHALIGRAPH and DNA but their career has grown. I cannot play Lamba Lolo or New Position. Djs shouldn’t play mediocre music,” he said on NRG’s Breakfast Club.

Online Onslaught

A declaration that inspired an online onslaught against Pinye with some musicians accusing him of being an impediment to their careers when they were trying to make it. DNA even went ahead and released a diss track called ‘Kapinye’.

Now that he is turning 48, Pinye revealed that he usually reflects on a lot of thing in his life during his birthdays and this year he wanted to apologize to artistes who feel that he derailed their career.

“On my bdays, I usually reflect on a lot of things about my life. Today, am thinking about my impact. My impact on other people's lives specifically those in the music industry. One thing is clear, I am aware of my influence. I apologise to those who feel I played a part in derailing their music career. But I am not apologetic for the values and standards I uphold for our music industry. #itsmybirthday #foreveryoung #playgoodmusicin my eyes,” he wrote.
