Death hoaxes can have dire consequences, but unfortunately, Kamaru’s is not the first of its kind. Other victims of death rumours include OJ, Churchill, Brenda Wairimu and Tahidi High’s Teacher Kilunda.

Comedian and founder of the Churchill show, Daniel Ndambuki was eating when he heard the news that he had been killed. The comedian was said to have passed away in a grisly road accident along the Mai Mahiu-Suswa road. The UK-based blog even went on to showcase an SUV that had been crashed before eulogizing him and giving Intel from the police and relatives. Churchill was forced to switch off his phone to avoid having to repeat himself to the worried people who called him.

OJ, on the other hand, was said to have died at home after experience respiratory problems. Brenda’s death hoax read that she has fallen ill and shortly after died at the age of 27, in the US where she was trying to seal an endorsement deal. Though it was such a grave rumour, Brenda turned it into a joke by responding with “Dead! Pun intended. I am using heavenly Wifi” LOL!
