Kawira’s husband Ephantus Wahome Kamau is now the chairman of the Performers Rights Society of Kenya (PRISK) after a rigorous voting process.
Kawira’s husband lands top job
Ephantus took up the position after Nonini resigned in 2018.
In a statement on the PRISK website after landing the top job, Ephantus said “Together with the Board of Directors, I shall ensure that PRISK achieves its objectives regardless of the challenges that we may encounter. Our main agenda will be to increase collections in order to distribute more to our members. We shall also focus on promoting local content consumption and maintaining good working relationships, by ensuring that there is teamwork among the board of directors, secretariat, PRISK members and other stakeholders. I will also engage the outgoing directors in order to get the right knowledge from their experience and better understand PRISK policies and procedures.”
In August 2018, Hubert Mbuku Nakitare aka Nonini handed in his resignation as the PRISK Chairman months after being appointed.
Nonini took to his social media pages to shares the news of his resignation stating he had decided to part ways with PRISK on what he termed as the board going against the conditions set by its regulator the Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO).
“Today I have officially resigned as Chairman of and above is my resignation letter. We have a regulator who issues our licenses to collect and has set out clear conditions we collect jointly with & when a board I chair goes against the conditions set by our regulator that means they are going against the government and I will not be party to such,” wrote Mr Nakitare.
