This was during the launch of the KFCB Survey Report at the Laico Regency on Tuesday. According to KFCB CEO Ezekiel Mutua, the report ‘will guide the review of our legal instruments to ensure our mandate is embedded in the law and that it reflects the realities of our time.’
According to the report, local programs took the lion’s share in terms of viewership with 64 per cent. News came in second at 20% followed by Soap Operas at 12%, Sports at 3% and Cartoons at 1%.
In the list of local programs, Machachari on Citizen TV and Churchill Show on NTV were the most popular probably because they are clean enough to watch with your kids and still serve a dose of entertainment.
Ezekiel Mutua commended local media houses for adhering to rating rules and settings disclaimers before the shows. “I think the broadcast stations have done a wonderful job. I have personally seen the disclaimers before a show is aired so I think they have complied”
He then went on to add “We will work with creators, distributors and consumers of content to ensure that content promotes our culture and moral values. We thank the Government for the great support and pledge our utmost dedication to our sacrosanct duty of protecting children from exposure to harmful content.”
