Larry Madowo speaks after dramatic night

NTV journalists Larry Madowo, Linus Kaikai and Ken Mijungu were forced to camp out in their newsroom last night for fear of arrest.

This move came after 4 major TV stations were shut down for broadcasting the ‘swearing in’ of opposition leader Raila Odinga as the ‘People’s President’

Linus is reportedly wanted over a statement he issued as the Kenya Editors Guild chairman, accusing the government of gagging the media.

Larry allegedly became a wanted man because he was in charge of the broadcast that day, while Mijungu was on the ground reporting and even went live on KTN to report on the Government’s decision to shut down Citizen TV and NTV.

The three have moved to court to stop their impending arrest and prosecution by the state.

Speaking to Reuters after their dramatic night, Larry said “This is clearly a slide to dictatorship. It’s a return to a repressive period we had forgotten about. We are becoming another African country with these kinds of issues.”

While Ken Mijungu expressed that he has no regrets over how he covered the event yesterday and given a chance he would still do it again.

“We were doing our job, we had the right to do this, and if I was to do it again, I’d do it the same way,” Mijungu told Reuters.
