Oscar award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o has sparked a heated debate online after her controversial photos and video surfaced online.

The photos showed Lupita and fellow actress Janelle Monae posing in what several websites described as “touchy feely display” and positioned in an “affectionate stance towards one another” and “cozying up”.

The photos doing rounds on social media sparked controversy with many wondering if Lupita is in a relationship with the openly gay actress.

By the time this publication was made, none of them had denied or confirmed whether the two are in a relationship even as many believed that the two could be more than just friends judging by the photos and the video.

Some however saw the public display as an attempt to make Janelle’s ex-girlfriend jealous.

Janelle recently broke up with her girlfriend Tessa Thomson with the two reportedly unfollowing each other on social media.

"My theory is that Tessa Thompson and Janelle Monáe broke up and are both trying to make the other jealous with Lupita Nyongo,"quipped one user on Twitter.

The Instagram Live video of the two looking “rather chummy were taken at an event dubbed Met Gala 2019 and led many to conclude that they are either in love or dating.
