Mzee Ojwang's wife thought I had stolen her husband

When you portray a certain character for a long time, sometimes fans may confuse the actor with the role they play and often think that the actor has the same habits as the character they portray or even think that the actor is, in reality, the same person as the character.

The actors’ name is even forgotten and they are identified with their character’s names such as Mary Khavere who people only know as ‘Mama Kayai’ or Catherine Kamau who we know as ‘Celina’ and Timothy Kimani whose real name has been forgotten for the name ‘Njugush’ from his character in The Real Househelps of Kawangware.

Speaking exclusively to plive.co.ke, the actors of Vitimbi and Vioja Mahakamani revealed that actor-character confusion is a situation they deal with constantly.

For Lucy Wangui (the no nonsense judge in Vioja) many people confuse her for a real judge and even the kids are afraid of her.People even seek her legal expertise to help solve difficult cases. A while back, her own father asked her to help out an old man who had a serious court case. And when she tried to explain that she is not a judge but an actress at KBC, the father did not believe her.

“Ninaambia baba yangu mimi si judge, na siko kwa korti, mimi huact KBC.” She told her late father. But he was adamant and insisted that the daughter is a judge.

“Wewe ni judge lazima usaidie mzee, huyu mzee ana kesi mbaya sana ya mtoto wake.” The dad replied.

But even after she tried her best to explain that she is just an actress, the father did not believe her.

“Akaseme lazima nisaidie mzee, tulisumbuana sana sababu aliona ni kama nakataa.” She disclosed.

For Mama Kayai, she had some squabbles with Mzee Ojwang’s wife Augusta Wanjiru Wanjau because she thought that Mama Kayai had stolen her hubby and was having a real life relationship with Ojwang. This is because she didn’t understand that it was just acting.

“Nilikuwa na-act kama bibi ya Mzee Ojwang’ na bibi ya Mzee Ojwang’ hakuwa anaelewa ni acting. Sasa yeye alikuwa anachukulia ni ukweli. Hakuwa anaelewa na baadaye tukamwelezea akaelewa ni acting.” She said.

“Walisumbuana sana alikuwa anamwambia ‘Wewe achana na bwana yangu!’ Lucy revealed.

“Ilikuwa ni shida sana. Na hata ile siku mzee alikufa watu walikuwa wananipatia mimi pole, lakini nikawaambia mimi si bibi ya mzee Ojwang’ halafu nikawaelezea bibi ya mzee Ojwang’ ni nani.” Mama Kayai said.

For Gibson, some confuse him for a police officer while others call him mkubwa.

“Nilipatana na a senior police officer akaniuliza kama bado niko provincial headquarters? Namwambia mimi si polisi akasema wewe ni police officer na tulikuwa na wewe Kiganjo. Nikakubali tu." He said before revealing that when it comes to the law, there are perks to this kind of confusion.

" Two weeks ago nimeingia kwenye lane mbaya na madam corporal akanisimamisha then inspector mwenye walikuwa naye akamuuliza unasimamisha mkubwa ?" He added chuckling.
