23 radio stations shut down for promoting witchcraft

The Government has suspended the licenses of 23 radio stations.

About a week later on February 6, 2018, NTV and KTN were back on air despite Royal Media services being the only media house that moved to court to prevent the government from interfering with their signal transmission. 2 days later Citizen TV and Inooro TV were finally back on air ending nine days of media shutdown.

It seems that the shutting-down trend does not stop in Kenya as the Ugandan Communications Commission has suspended the licenses of 23 Radio stations for ‘promoting and advertising witchcraft content, aiding and abetting electronic fraud.’

The affected stations include Metro FM, Nile FM, Kagadi Broadcasting Services, Emambya FM and Village Club FM among others.
