Uhuru’s niece opens up on her struggle with Alcoholism

Nana shares her story

Nana, who is a mother of three, revealed that she is recovering from alcoholism and it took her 19 years to do so. She had to quit alcohol so as to get her life back on track.

While speaking in NTV’s  famous comedy show Churchill, the 40year old disclosed that there was a time she could drink a whole crate of beer or a ‘Mzinga’ of hard liquor without stopping.

After finally being able to quit drinking, she said she lost so many of her friends on the way.

Her words of advice to people who may be in similar situation like she was in: “Tomorrow is another day try to live or get that day and never be ashamed or proud to ask for support Kenya has a lot of support use it.”

She further encouraged using the famous quote by Jesse Jackson, “Never look down on anyone unless you are picking them up.”

Not long ago Nana celebrated her birthday in a flashy invite-only party held in Malindi. The event was attended by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, her brother Jomo Gecaga, socialite Lola Hannigan, family and friends.

She is the acting Managing Director of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).  She is a holder of a degree in Marketing for the American Intercontinental University, London.

Nana is the daughter of President Uhuru’s elder sister, Jeni Wambui whose mother was third wife of former President Jomo Kenyatta.
