Why I was forced to drop out of college – Vanessa Mdee

Tanzanian song bird Vanessa Mdee has disclosed why she was forced to drop out of college.

In a post seen by Pulselive.co.ke, Ms Mdee said that her father’s death left them with financial challenges and they could not afford school fees.

She went on to reveal that she then took up a job at MTV Africa where she made a name for herself as the first Tanzanian MTV VJ. She later on hosted a series of other TV shows in Tanzania including radio shows.

Vanessa’s words came as she went back to the college she dropped out of many years ago, as one of the judges of East Africa’s Got Talent semi-finals.

Full circle moment for me; I dropped out of college when Dad died to pursue my career at MTV AFRICA (we couldn’t afford it anymore). Today I return to that very same college as a judge on @eastafricagt to see someone else’s dreams become a reality. Bittersweet memories BE GONE, we are making history over the next 3 weeks. WE GO LIVE at 8pm EAT. These are the semi-finals,” wrote Ms Mdee.

Clinically blind

A few weeks ago the Wet hit maker took her millions of followers by surprise after she disclosed that one of her eyes was clinically blind.

The Tanzanian singer who was impressed by a cancer surviving contestant let the little known about side of her life to the public adding that the condition had not stopped her from going after her dreams.

It’s unusual for someone so young to sing so soulfully, you can tell that you’ve been through stuff I’m clinically blind in one eye as well but that hasn’t stopped me from pursuing my biggest dreams. Let that be the fuel for you no matter what happens at the end of this competition to me you are a winner and you’re going to continue winning,” said Vanessa Mdee.
