The app that officially got into the market in 2018 currently boasts of more than 20 million subscribers across Africa and in its efforts to build the largest video community by the use of mobile phones. Vskit is currently working with more than 500 artists across Africa as Brand Ambassadors.
The app created by Transsnet Media is available on the App Store, Google Play store and Palmstore on Tecno and Infinix phones, and can also be used to edit videos.
According to Vskit, they chose Africa because there are people ready to produce content that directly reflects their generational and cultural landscape, and the app caters for both content creators and the consumers.
“We chose the African market as our launch pad because we feel that there’s a convergence of opportunities currently happening. Since our umbrella company manufactures and sells mobile handsets, we know that the price points for smart phones with good quality cameras have fallen, making it easier for many capable content creators to shoot videos affordably,” said Vskit Marketing Manager David Mwawasi.
Vskit has different categories of videos that have attracted a lot of interest from their consumers which include; Light Drama, Beauty and Fashion, Slapstick Humor and Popular Dances.
Ben C- Brand Ambassador
Kenyan Gospel singer Benjamin Chadaka popularly known as Ben C is one of the many artistes representing Vskit as Brand Ambassador.
According to Vskit, they identified the singer who was a regular user of the app after he released his song Church girl and it went viral on the app. This made it easy for them to accord him the support he needed to boost his music career.
“Ben C was an avid Vskit user, exceptional content creator, oozed a lot of talent, and was very hungry to take his musical career to the next level which made it very easy for us to provide him the support he needed to achieve just that. We are currently working with over 500 artists in the same capacity,” added Mwawasi.
Ben C, who also talked to this journalist about being Vskit brand ambassador said; “The opportunity came after the song Church Girl which I have featured my wife. It went viral on the app and has over 30 million views and this is what prompted Vskit to reach out to me among other companies.”
He added that Vskit helped him find a new audience which has helped him expand his reach.
“I have found an audience through Vskit. I am reaching a wider audience and expanding my territory as an artist,” stated Ben C.
Ben C likes to describe himself as a performing and recording artist, an audio producer, and a songwriter.
Ben C, who is also the CEO of LAX Entertainment, a music production company said that the next year (2020) will definitely be big for him, as he plans to drop an album, as well as introducing more young artistes into the game.
Vskit has in the past one year and nine months of existence helped artists showcase their talents to the world in short videos by use of mobile phones. Vskit also provides a good platform for improved creativity due to the diversity of videos available on the platform.
