However, 5 years on this philanthropic campaign is eliciting severe backlash from Kenyans. This is because Kenyans feel that despite the several Beyond Zero half-marathons held to raise money, maternal healthcare is still sub-par.
On the other hand, others feel that the campaign is just another scam while others expressed that the taxes we pay should be enough for a good healthcare system. A section of celebrities who have associated themselves with the campaign have been dragged by their lace fronts.
Sheila Mwanyigha recently sent out a tweet to encourage Kenyans to run this year in the ‘Beyond Zero’ Marathon but they have made it clear that they are not boarding.
See some of the reactions below:
kevin midigo: No thank you...Mahali nimefika siwezi kimbishwa na madeni alafu nikimbie marathon
Dauti Kahura: There's nothing charitable about this run....
Deputy Sherrif: Why participate to enrich the few while people like Boniface murage can't even afford hospital bill for the kid . What is purpose of beyond zero marathon anyway??
danP: Tell Mama to tell Papa to take charge of the country and fix this corruption menace. Then will not need to run to raise funds the so called charitable initiatives
#BeHumble: Punda amechoka
Gathoni: Nah. Will wash my hair instead. Or something
Bryan: hehe.. mbio za sakafuni while Nyokafi is carting off mabilioni from mAfya house.
Joe Vega : Kimbia peke yako pls.
WEKESA LEONARD: If only the run was to ensure medics are adequately paid, facilities equipped, patient to medic ratio reduced and public health cover improved, I would have forced all my family members to participate and even supervise their participation. Hii ingine akimbilie state house
Ahmed Jama: This is nothing but a socialite event, it's got nothing to do with charity or anything noble.
Chairman Muthusi: Another con game........
We have a Government that must take care of society's medical needs.
Stop this nonsense of running to massage the ego of cartels.
Robin Hood: Not boarding what we need is to run away from all this corruption
NERD: We shouldn't even have to run for maternal health tbh as in??
