Court makes final decision on Muthama and Kuria's case

Earlier on, Muthama’s supporters had staged demonstrations outside Pangani police station demanding for immediate release of the former senator.

Muthama and Kuria were arrested on Monday over allegations of Hate speech and forced to spend the night at Pangani Police station.

The Director of Public prosecutions Dr. Kerioko Tobiko requested for more time in order to decide whether to charge the former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama and his counterpart Moses Kuria.

The former senator was arrested at Kangundo before being taken to the DCI HQs in Nairobi.

On September 11, Leaders from the National Super Alliance (NASA) showed up at the police station in solidarity with one of their own.

However, Moses Kuria's lawyer has also requested for the unconditional release the legislator who was arrested on allegations of hate speech.

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) had earlier said it was investigating Kuria and 277 other individuals for incitement and hate speech.

NCIC Chairman Francis ole Kaparo said that if Mr Kuria will be found culpable, the commission will recommend his prosecution as stipulated by the NCIC Act.

Among those who showed up at the Police were the NASA Presidential Candidate Raila Odinga Senator James Orengo, Governor Hassan Joho, Junet Mohammed, Nairobi Women representative Esther Passaris, Kibera MP Ken Okoth among others.

Last week, a video went viral across social media showing Kuria making vulgar utterances in Kikuyu against Nasa leader Raila Odinga.
