Shock as Kenyan university student found dead days after classmate committed suicide
He had been failing his classes.
Michael Gikonyo, a Computer Science student, is believed to have taken his own life three weeks after his classmate Kevin Mugendi Warui also cut his life short by hanging in his room.
According to Nairobi News, the Chuka OCPD Barasa Saiya said that the body of Mr Gikonyo was found by a nonstudent who then informed the university.
"The body had already started decomposing showing that it had been out there for some days,” said Mr Sayia.
It was then transferred to Chuka County Referral Hospital Mortuary.
Unreachable by phone
A roommate who wished to remain anonymous revealed that Mr Gikonyo had not been back to his room since Wednesday and remained unreachable by phone.
He said Mr Gikonyo had threatened to commit suicide and written a suicide note a while back.
The deceased had not been attending most of his classes and had been failing them.
The question of mental health remains one that is not adequately dealt with especially for campus students.
