Woman stripped in Embu for trying to con Mpesa agent with fake currency
They tossed the money in the air in a bid to confuse the crowd, but the mob seized two of them
According to a report by Nairobi News, the two are said to have attempted to deposit Sh50,000 at an M-Pesa outlet near Embu town’s miraa market.
But before they could deposit the amount, the shop’s owner, Ms Faith Wambui, suspected the authenticity of the currencies and raised the alarm.
The suspects, identified as Ms Elizabeth Wanjiru Kamau 29, and Geoffrey Kamau Maina 32, and a third suspect, attempted to grab the money but only managed to snatch Sh31,000, leaving the Sh19,00.
They then tossed the money in the air in a bid to confuse the crowd, but the mob seized two of them while a third disappeared.
Members of public seized some of the suspected fake money and looted some more hidden in the group’s car.
Embu West DCIO George Etyang said the mob then stripped the woman, beat them up with assorted weapons, before police arrived and rescued them from being lynched.
He said the two were rushed to hospital where they were admitted with multiple injuries.
Mr Etyang said a vehicle which the two were using was also towed to the Embu police station.
He said the two would be charged in court on Tuesday.
“They are saying they are from Nyandarua but we have not yet confirmed since they didn’t have identification documents,” said Mr Etyang.
