Woman arrested while selling "Mchele" made from snake drugs

The drugs sells for Sh30,000 each.

Teresia Mwikali was selling the drugs to be used as mchele which cause a sleepy effect when mixed with alcohol.

The Acting Kitengela Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Joseph Koskey said that they suspected Mwikali had networks in Nairobi, Mombasa and Nakuru.

According to The Star, officers recovered five sachets each containing 10 vials of the anti-venom labelled "Puff Adder". Each vial has a street value of Sh30,000.

"We have established that she has been trading with this drug in the country’s major cities and towns," the officer said.

Koskey explained that the arrest was as a result of the many cases of victims who had been drugged coming forward.

Mwikali was arraigned in Kajiado and was charged with five counts of illegal possession of poison contrary to Section 26 (2) of the Pharmacy and Poisons Act.

She was also charged with unlawfully carrying out the business of a pharmacist while not registered, and possession of unregistered drugs, and counterfeit medicine contrary to Section 32 of the Counterfeit Act, 2008.

She pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on Sh5 million bond. The case will be heard May 28th.
