Details have emerged on the amount of Billions fresh presidential Election will cost...
The money will be used to cater for polling officials’ wages, enhancement of electoral technology and electoral materials.
According to a report seen by the Star, Sh1.49 billion will be used to enhance technology, Sh1.9 billion for transport and Sh2.39 billion for polling officials’ wages.
On the other hand, Sh2.9 billion will be used to train poll officials while on Sh1.3 billion will be spent on acquisition of election materials.
A further Sh214 Million has been earmarked for "tallying centre expenses," Sh136 million on ICT security, Sh147 million technical support and Sh516 million for network and communication.
In the last Election, IEBC spent Sh 42 Billion but the presidential results was nullified by CJ David Maraga on grounds of many irregularities.
"The opposition claimed a vast conspiracy to rig the election and now in a 4-2 decision, the Supreme Court has found there were so many irregularities, they affected the integrity of the elections.
"The court has ordered another election within the next 60 days. But the opposition says they can't trust the same body that bungled this election to carry out a new one," Marag said when he made the ruling.
Chebuakti has already requested the National treasury to provide the funds as they adequately prepare for the Election.
Meanwhile, a storm has been brewing in the electoral body after Chebukati selected a new team to lead the fresh election but sidelined CEO Ezra Chiloba.
The commissioners will be meeting for a retreat in Naivasha from Monday to discuss the next Election and the fate of Chiloba.
NASA led by Raila Odinga has demanded the resignation of Chiloba on grounds that he was used to manipulate the Election results.
Both teams, NASA and Jubilee have also rejected the new team picked by IEBC to lead the fresh polls accusing them of being partisan.
