Mr Kenyatta, who was hunting for votes in the county, publicly declared that Matiang’i was in his inner circle.
He named him number three in his Government after Deputy President William Ruto.
The Head of State told locals that the Education CS was the only deserving person to get such a position.
President Kenyatta, who was in Matiang’i's backyard, could just be using the words to excite the crowd.
"Ni waziri mgani mwengine akona nguvu baada ya mimi na Ruto?"
"Huyo mtoto wenyu ndio ako incharge of Usalama wa nchi na elimu," Kenyatta said.
However, some political pundits including ODM Communication Director Phillip Etale poked holes on the President’s remarks.
Etale tweeted: “Listening to Pres. Uhuru in Kisii, he tells Kisii's that is number 3 after him and DP Ruto. I thought Lusaka was. Waluhya hehe
According to the Constitution, all Cabinet Secretaries enjoy equal powers.
The interior and Coordination ministry is viewed to be a powerful docket and the late CS Joseph Nkaissery was also very close to the President.
