We told you how you can incorporate honey into your beauty routine, for better, flawless skin. Now, we will show you how to use lemons for beauty. Lemons have many health benefits when consumed and even for external purposes when it comes to all things beauty. Here’s how you can add lemons into your daily skin routine.

1. Lemon is believed to have skin lightening properties.

You can rub lemon on your knees, knuckles or elbows overnight for a few minutes, using a cotton wool dipped in lemon juice then wash off in the morning. Repeat the process till you start seeing results.

2. If you’re constantly struggling with dandruff, lemon can help balance the PH of the scalp and get rid of the dry flakey skin.

Mix two tablespoons of coconut oil and one teaspoon of lemon juice then massage this mixture onto the scalp for several minutes. The coconut oil helps fight dandruff because it has antifungal properties and moisturizes the scalp as well. Once you have massaged the scalp with the mixture, let it sit for about 30 minutes then shampoo as usual.

3. Lemon makes for one of the best natural toners for oily skin because of its astringent properties and does a really good job of controlling the oil.

The acid in the lemon can be a bit harsh on the skin so dilute it with a little bit of water. Wipe your face with this every night with a cotton wool and wash it off in the morning.

4. As deodorant.

Lemon juice can also act as a natural deodorant because it kills the bacteria causing the odor. If you run out of deo, simply dip a cotton wool in lemon juice and rub it on your armpits. This also helps brighten dark armpits – talk about killing two birds with one stone.

5. As a foot soak.

Add half a cup of lemon juice into a basin with warm water and soak your feet for fifteen minutes. The citric acid found in lemons acts as a natural exfoliant and it helps remove dead skin, leaving your feet softer.

6. Teeth whitener.

You have definitely heard that you can use lemon as a teeth whitener. Mix baking soda with lemon juice, wait for the froth to end and use that mixture to brush your teeth. Do not do this too often though as the acid can damage your teeth enamel. Alternatively, you can also use the lemon peel to rub the inside of it on your teeth for a few minutes since the peels also contain lightening properties. After, rinse and brush your teeth as you normally do.

7. To strengthen weak nails.

Make your own nail strengthener by mixing one tablespoon lemon juice with two tablespoons of olive oil, then dip your fingers in the mixture and soak them for ten minutes, while rubbing the mixture on each nail and massaging it. This will help prevent the breaking and will also brighten up yellow nails.
