How to beat the cold before it gets to you.

If you already have a cold, there are various remedies you can try to help and if the situation persists, you should seek medical advice.

However, with the intermittent rains then sudden dust, it’s easy to find yourself susceptible even though you haven’t gotten a cold.

Here are 5 things you can do to help prevent a cold this season.

Sleep with your head elevated

If you sleep with your head propped up, you can help prevent congestion of your sinuses and have air flowing in freely in your sleep.

Take hot showers

Hot and humid air is toxic to viruses so if you found yourself exposed to them, taking a hot shower can go a long way in helping preventing the cold.

Stay hydrated

This is like step 1 of any health advice articles. But staying hydrated, while being common sense, also helps keep your throat moist.

Boost up on your vitamins

Especially Vitamin C. Stock up on lemons, oranges, strawberries. The vitamin helps with treating and preventing colds as it boosts your immunity and helps break down stress hormones.

You should also increase your intake of foods rich in Vitamin A which contains a nutrient called beta-carotene that help nourish the thymus gland. This is the gland responsible for most of your immunity. Such foods include carrots and sweet potatoes.

These are foods that help your body’s immune function. They include yoghurt which is a natural probiotic (bacteria that’s good for your health.

Mushrooms- which help promote blood cell production.

Garlic- which contains allicin which helps fight infection.
