Here are 5 sicknesses caused by cold weather to be weary of.

1. Flu

The flu makes elderly people, pregnant women, people with chronic conditions are more vulnerable. To prevent the flu, get a flu shot or get a nasal spray for your child.

2. Common Cold

This can be prevented by washing your hands, keep household items clean. Avoid poorly ventilated rooms as well.

3. Painful joints

The cold can cause joints to become more painful and stiff during the cold season. Especially for people with arthritis. Daily exercises such as swimming can help reduce the pain.

4. Sore throat

They are caused by viral infections and cause the throat to feel itchy. You can also lose your voice and find it difficult to swallow. Gargle warm salty water if you feel a sore throat coming on. Take lots of ginger and lemon.

5. Asthma

Cold is a major trigger of asthma symptoms such as shortness of breath and wheezing. According to the UK's National Health Service you should stay indoors on very cold, windy days. If you do go out, wear a scarf loosely over your nose and mouth. Be extra vigilant about taking your regular medications, and keep reliever inhalers close by.
