1. Shettles says you need to have sex 2-3 days before ovulation

Shettles method states that having sex 2-4 days before ovulation favors the female sperm which can live longer than the male one. Thereby conception of a baby girl is most likely to happen. Scientists recommend that the woman keep an ovulation chart so that she can predict the days of her cycle that she ovulates.

Shettles further advises that you should avoid sex when you have clear, egg-yolk like vaginal mucus since it is a sure sign of ovulation. The male sperm can swim faster than its female counterpart to get to the finish line.

Word of caution- Doctors say that avoiding sex at this time could lead to no conception at all.

2. Take acidic foods

According to Shettles, a woman should take acidic foods in the days leading to ovulation. This will foster an acidic environment in the vagina. Since male sperms cannot survive in an acidic environment, they will be eliminated.

Acidic foods such as wholegrains which include breads, cereal and rice, meat, candy and cakes, maize will help to foster an acidic environment in the vagina.

In turn you should also reduce the intake of alkaline foods such as fruits in order to create an acidic ph.

3. Sex position

Shettles method advises that for conception of a girl to happen, deep penetration should be avoided. While the male sperm can sprint faster than the female one, it was not made for long distance since it will faint on the way.

Shettles further recommends regular sex from the day when a woman finishes her period. It helps deposit lots of the longer lasting X sperm so that they are ready to fertilize the egg once it is released from the ovaries.

4. Avoid Orgasm

Shettles further claims that muscular uterine contractions give the male sperm a boost towards the fallopian tubes where conception takes place.

As a disclaimer, it is important to note that this method has an estimated 65% - 70% success rate. Moreover, the sex of a child is ultimately determined by probability. You may target a girl but eventually conceive a boy.
