7 great perfume tips you need to start following

Has your perfume scent been disappearing too fast?

Perfumes come in all types, shapes and sizes. From designer perfumes to light body sprays, there's something for everyone. If you want to buy a genuine brand, the best option would be to buy from renown shops that deal in body sprays and perfumes as opposed to some random Instagram boutiques as there are so many fakes around. When you do buy your desired perfume, don't just store it somewhere in the house and use it haphazardly when you need to. There are some guidelines you need to follow if you want the scent to be more defined. Have you ever worn your perfume and after like one hour there's literally no scent? That's because you're doing it wrongly.

Here are tips you need to know on wearing your perfume:

1. Have you ever wondered why some perfumes come with matching lotions?

That's because you're supposed to moisturize your skin before applying the perfume, if you want the scent to last longer. If you have a matching lotion, even better because of the layered scents.

2. Apply your perfume at pulse points.

The skin is thinner near the pulse points and the blood warms the skin, thus propelling the fragrance to the air much better. However, do not apply in all pulse points, you could pick the wrists, behind the hears, elbows, or behind the knees. They say, apply perfume where you want to be kissed. Hehe but erm, don't apply on the lips.

3. Speaking of applying perfume, this is a mistake many of us do.

When you apply on your wrists, do not rub them together. This destroys the molecules, causing the scent to disappear faster. Instead, dab your wrists together gently.

4. I'm sure I'm not the only who applies perfume on the hair.

Ladies, this is a great tip. The perfume lasts longer and when someone hugs you, they can really smell it. However, for it to be even stronger, instead of spraying on the hair directly as it can make the hair dry, apply it on the hair brush then brush your hair.

5. Do not overdo it. Moderation guys...

Have you ever entered a lift and someone enters smelling like they drowned in a sea of flowers? Worse still, if it's the really strong scents...that's not cool. When buying perfume, do remember that perfume contains upto 20% of perfume oil, Eau De Parfum 10-20% Eau De Toilette 10%, Cologne 5% and body spray 1-3%. So with something like body spray which is basically meant to keep us fresh, you can go all out. But with a perfume, just a little spritz is enough.

6. If you feel that the scent disappears during the day, feel free to carry the perfume with you.

The only problem is that sometimes, they come in bigger bottles and you don't want to end up carrying some big bottle all day in your bag. In this case, spray some cotton buds and keep them in a ziplock bag then use them when you need to add more perfume. Alternatively, you could put some in the tester bottles that you get for free when you buy a perfume. They're easy to open and close back. Just make sure you wash the tester bottle thoroughly so that the previous scent does not affect the current one.

7. Store your perfume correctly.

Never put your perfume in the bathroom. Always keep it away from direct heat, humidity and light.
