Like, there’s really no winning when it comes to skin. Massive shame huh? It’s really important to know your skin type because at the end of the day, the way your skin looks has got a lot to do with your lifestyle. Your diet and social habits for instance. When it comes to oily skin, there are several unexpected things that could be causing your skin to be oily, such as:

1. Hormones.

At least we can blame everything on hormones. Lol, even oily skin. But seriously. Hormonal imbalances, caused by contraceptives, diet. Being on your periods, pregnancy etc, lead to overactive sebaceous glands in our skin and excess oil production which makes the skin feel greasy and look oily. A good cleanser that’s gentle on the skin will help remove the excess oil.

2. Too much dairy products.

Unfortunately, eating too many dairy products can stimulate the oil glands in the skin. So you might wanna cut down on the yogurts and all other milky products out there if you want good skin. Also, while still on diet, ensure that you hydrate a lot and consume less sugary foods as they can lead to overactive sebum production.

3. Not using moisturizer.

Or, using the wrong moisturizer. As weird as it sounds, oily skin needs moisturizer. Basically, your skin produces oil to make up for the moisture it’s not getting because it’s dehydrated. Get a good oil-free moisturizer for your oily skin to ensure that your skin is always mositurized.

4. Cosmetics.

Using skin products that are wrong for your skin type could cause your skin to dry out which in turn leads to more oil production. Using overly greasy products could also be the culprit causing your skin to look and feel oily. Bad quality makeup tends to be harsh too and may make the sebaceous glands produce more oil.

5. Weather.

Humidity and hot weather tend to stimulate the secretion of sebum, leading to more oil on the skin. Also, in arid or cold climates, skin can dry out, causing oil glands to go into overdrive to compensate.
