Sleep experts recommend sleeping for seven to nine hours each day. Sleep is an important things that we should take more seriously since it affects other important aspects of our lives.

But did you know that you could be making sleeping mistakes that affect the quality of your sleep? Here are common sleeping mistakes people make unknowingly:

1. Different sleeping time

Going to bed at different times each day confuses the body making sleeping harder. If you get your body used to going to bet at a particular time each day, it will be easier to fall asleep and get quality sleep.

2. Using your phone in bed

Honestly, we love our smartphones and tablets. While it may seem like a good idea to use the phone as you wait to fall asleep, experts say it’s wrong. These gadgets emit light that delay the production of melatonin, a hormone that helps one fall asleep.

3. Napping for too long

A few minutes nap is healthy. But if you do it for too long, then it will affect your sleep at night. You will find it harder falling asleep and the quality of your sleep will also not be the best.

4. Caffeine before bed

Unless you want to stay awake longer, then you should forget about taking any caffeinated drink before going to bed.

5. Hot showers

Sounds like a hot shower should help soothe your body to sleep. But that’s not the case according to the National Sleep Foundation. For you easily fall asleep, your body temperature needs to be lowered and a hot shower causes it to rise. If you have to take a hot shower, do it some hours before rather than jumping from the shower directly into the bed.
