How to make an air freshener with natural ingredients

About making air freshener at home with natural ingredients

Synthetic air fresheners are loaded with chemicals and man-made fragrances that are not good for your health. Conventional air fresheners in the market were found to contain high levels of phthalates which are harmful to young children.

According to the Natural Resources Defence Council (NRDC), an analysis of more than a dozen common household air fresheners contain chemicals. These chemicals may affect hormones and reproductive development, particularly in babies.

“Phthalates are hormone-disrupting chemicals that can be dangerous for young children and unborn babies. Exposure to phthalates can affect testosterone levels and lead to reproductive abnormalities, including abnormal genitalia and reduced sperm production,” wrote the NRDC

Some phthalates including those found in air freshener products are known to cause birth defects or reproductive harm.

It is precisely why a person should opt for natural ingredients that will cause no harm at all to the body while wafting a beautiful aroma in the house.

Tool/Supplies needed

Steps

1. Lemon and rosemary scent

Lemon and rosemary scent is made with water, lemon, rosemary and vanilla from vanilla pods. You can just place them in a jar full of warm water.

2. Lavender oil

You can make an air freshener with a combination of water, vodka and lavender oil which is sold in local stores.

3. Dried rosemary and lavender powder

You can freshen the carpet using rosemary and lavender carpet powder. Sprinkle the mixture of baking soda, dried rosemary and lavender oil on the carpet. Let it sit for 10-25 minutes and vacuum it up. The result will be a sweet-smelling aroma.

4. Cinnamon and Orange

This is a cinnamon-orange freshener that works by mixing water, cinnamon oil, and orange together with a water-absorbing polymer. Your room will be vibrant with a fresh beautiful scent. Add cloves to the mixture and it will spice up the smell. The scent will even fill other rooms.

The mixture can be reused by heating it up again.

5. Pine or cedar twigs, bay leaves and nutmeg

A combination of pine or cedar twigs, bay leaves and nutmeg form a complex aroma. Buy ground nutmeg and mix all the ingredients together.

6. Orange, ginger (fresh or powdered) and almond extract

The mixture of ginger, oranges almond extract and water will leave a heartwarming scent that you want to have in your house perpetually.
